Annual Fundraising Event

The 7th annual Bearcat Benefit: VIVA MATEO! was held at the Crowne Plaza SFO in Burlingame on October 15th, 2011. The party began with the Bravo pre-party where guests who purchased tickets at the upper level were treated to fiesta appetizers, Mateo Margaritas, and were serenaded by an ensemble from the SMHS Orchestra.

The festivities continued with a Silent Auction which featured wine and wine tasting tours, restaurant gift certificates, spectacular jewelry and SF Giants and 49ers memorabilia.

Nearly 200 attendees then adjourned to the main ballroom where they were welcomed by the Chair, Barb Shenson, and the SMHSF Presidents, Jeff Cantor and Julie Borden. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner followed by the Live Auction and Fund-A-Need. This year’s Fund-A-Need request was to purchase new Mac Computers for the Media Lab. This goal was achieved by raising over $40,000!! The evening continued with a performance from the SMHS Drama Department singing several numbers from the musical Side by Side by Sondheim. Guests then enjoyed dancing to the lively music of the band High ‘n Tight.

Thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors and donors who made this event possible. The evening was a huge success raising over $90,000 which will benefit all the students at SMHS promoting Academic Excellence! And a heart felt thank you to our chair – Barb Shenson – who’s leadership, wisdom and humor was critical in making the event so successful.
